Back up and restore your vault

Choose a folder and schedule, verify local backup history, and restore an encrypted backup on a new Mac.

Schedule encrypted backups

With your vault unlocked, open Settings → Backups and choose a destination folder. The default cadence is weekly; you can also choose daily, monthly, or turn the schedule off. Choose Save backup settings to apply the folder and schedule. If a backup becomes due while DohFlow is closed or the vault is locked, it runs the next time you unlock. It does not ask you to re-enter your password.

The Back up now button writes and verifies a backup immediately in the selected folder. The card shows the most recent verified backup and any terminal scheduled-backup error. Scheduled and one-off backups are kept until you remove them yourself. DohFlow does not automatically prune or delete older backup files. To free space, use Finder or your file manager to remove the copies you no longer need.

You can choose a local folder or one managed by iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or another cloud-sync client. DohFlow writes encrypted backup files locally; if the folder is synced, the provider’s own client carries the ciphertext off your Mac. DohFlow does not upload the file or receive a report about the selected destination. The format’s version-2 header does expose a stable vault-envelope fingerprint, so someone who can see the ciphertext can correlate backups made before a password rewrap or rekey.

Restore on a new Mac

Install DohFlow on the new Mac, start with no vault, and choose Restore from backup…. Select the .pcfobk file and enter the vault password that was current when that backup was made. DohFlow verifies the encrypted file before writing a new vault. A wrong password or damaged backup is rejected without replacing an existing vault.
