Is it really free?
Yup. The locally hosted DohFlow app is free to use manually. The only thing that currently costs money is the ability to optionally refresh your bank accounts automatically through SimpleFIN, which you pay them directly.
Where is my data?
In an encrypted file on your Mac. Our architecture ensures there is no DohFlow server managing your data, it’s yours to control. See Privacy.
What if I forget my passphrase?
Your data is unrecoverable. No reset, no back door. That is what real encryption means. We recommend you store the passphrase in a password manager.
Do I have to connect a bank?
No, and plenty of people never will. Manual entry and file import are fully supported paths. Bank connection is offered as a convenience for those that want it.
Which banks are supported?
DohFlow itself supports none directly — it connects through SimpleFIN, and coverage is theirs. Check SimpleFIN. If yours is not covered, CSV/OFX/QFX import works with any bank that can export.
Windows or Linux?
Not today. macOS only, and the app is built with Tauri, so other platforms are technically possible but nothing is promised.
Can I get my data out?
Yes — plaintext CSV export, deterministic, and it round-trips back through the importer. Portability is a design choice we made explicitly during development. There is no lock-in to escape.
Is my data backed up?
Only if you choose to make one. You can manually export an encrypted backup or schedule backups to a folder from Settings → Backups. A cloud-synced destination is managed by its provider’s client, which transfers only ciphertext; DohFlow does not upload the file.
How accurate is the forecast?
It measures itself. The app backtests its projections against what actually happened and reports the error. Accuracy depends heavily on how complete your data is and how regular your finances are.
Does it do investments or taxes?
Not meaningfully. Investment tracking is minimal and there is no tax preparation. DohFlow is about cash flow — whether you’ve got the dough to pay your upcoming obligations.
Who builds this?
DohFlow is currently a one person team, Chris Bustos.
